Artist Statement
In the beginning, my work: drawings, paintings and sculpture were personal satisfaction. I created only to have fun, to be free in mind, body, spirit and media: marble, wood, glass, clay to bronze, stainless steel, paint and pencil; it was a well organized experiment. Then the works became the means of obtaining finances and I found that it became very satisfactory for me to make others happy, bring joy, intellectual conversations and move the heart. My heart needed more and at the same time I was receiving opportunities in my commissions to now make personal statements, a kind of a hidden or maybe not so hidden way to give my feelings on social, political, religious and humane topics.
No matter how small or large of a work created I want to be able to make others think. Through art I want the chance to be able to make a difference in the world through moving hearts to smile, laugh and even cry. I want to make people feel strength in themselves, their country and the world around them by arousing emotion, happiness or anger. Through the mysteries of my art I want to show love, praise, thanks and honor. Everyday various artists, such as musicians, performing artists, fine artists and writers create conversations and raise awareness and funds to help those less fortunate and those suffering from hunger and disaster. To me this is “art in the heart”, the energy we are given to be able to help one another. We are living here together, the big picture is actually very small.
